2007 Ice Bowl Disc Golf Event
in Memory of Ron Pate

Saturday, January 6, 2007 - On a brisk, damp morning in January some 35
players came out to take part in the local 2007 Ice Bowl Disc Golf event
to benefit the Food Bank. The event, presented by Getaway Sports, was
held at the City of Springfield's Begg Park course located at the
Springfield Farmers Market. Disc golfers brought food donations
for the Food Bank and a portion of their registration fees benefited the
Food Bank. In all more than 350 pounds of food and $450 was raised
to support the Food Bank.
The money raised will be used to support the Food Bank's Kids Backpack
program at Springfield Middle School, providing at risk children with a
sack of food to take home over the weekend.
This year's event was held in memory of Ron Pate, a food bank supporter
and avid disc golf player, who passed away unexpectedly this past
November. Some of his friends and family, that he had introduced
to the sport, took part in the event on the Pate's Putters Team.
The event was made possible through the generous support of: City of
Springfield, Conversations Coffee Shop, Sweetwater's Donut Mill, Otter's
Oasis, Columbia Auto Service, Katie's Q's and the Battle Creek Disc Golf
Club.
A special thank you to all those who supported this event!

lost his disc in the creek, receiving a one stroke penalty.
