Felpausch Donates Baler to Food Bank

How do you bundle up 800-plus lbs. of cardboard at a time?
It's a cinch, if you happen to have a baler. Which the Food
Bank of South Central Michigan did not have, until Felpausch
Food Centers recently made the grateful charity the proud
recipient of a Philadelphia Tramrail Co. bailing machine.

"It's pretty exciting," said Ken Krider, one of the Food Bank's
over-the-road drivers. "It conserves resources by allowing us to
bale and recycle our cardboard. It conserves space in our
distribution center. And it also conserves financial resources,
because we turn around and sell the baled cardboard, instead of
paying to have it hauled away."

Ray Hewitt, another of the Food Bank's drivers, wholeheartedly
agrees. "When I first saw the baler coming into our loading
dock, I thought, 'Holy Cow, that is one incredibly powerful piece
of machinery.' After we actually baled our first load of cardboard,
  I was even more impressed."

The unit stands tall at a whopping 15 feet, weighing in at
  22,000 lbs.

"The whole idea is that the Food Bank is committed to doing all
we can to promote a green workplace," said Teresa Osborne,
Ken Krider and Ray Hewitt, with bale & baler         the Food Bank's Director of Food Donor & Community Relations.

As for the donor of the baler, Osborne said that, "Felpausch has always been a faithful friend of food-banking. This particular donation proves the point in spades."

Osborne noted that Felpausch has supported the Food Bank for over two decades, with consistent donations of food products, as well as loaning out key executives to chair the Spring Food Raiser and be part of the Food Bank's Board.

"As my family and I make the transition from owners of the (Felpausch) company, we were honored to give the Food Bank the baler, along with some warehouse racking," said Jim Feldpausch, a member of the Felpausch family and Food Bank Board.
