Hunger In America 2006 Click here for local
summary. (You'll need Abode Reader). Hunger in America 2006 is a follow-up to the groundbreaking study conducted four years ago. While Hunger in America 2001 set a benchmark, it was conducted before the full effects of the recent economic downturn and welfare reform hit. The Food Bank of South Central Michigan is participating in Hunger in America 2006 along with most of the other 220 food banks across the country who are members of America's Second Harvest. At the conclusion of the study, we will receive an analysis of both the national and LOCAL picture. We will have up-to-date information as to the extent of hunger in our eight county service area, as well as who is going hungry. WHY HUNGER IN AMERICA, 2006? Policy makers and funders require accurate, timely information in order to make the best decisions possible. At the conclusion of the project, Hunger in America 2006 will be the most comprehensive analysis of domestic hunger available. HOW WILL THIS STUDY BE USED? Information gathered from the local study will help us refine our services. (For example, results from the previous study helped us identify the need for additional services to children). Results will also help us secure funding from foundations and other sources that require recent demographic information contained in the study. Results will also be used to help advocate for hunger-relief programs at the state and national level. WHO ARE THE FUNDERS OF THIS STUDY?
