Kellogg recognized for volunteer service
Kellogg Co.'s partnership with the Food Bank of
South Central Michigan has been recognized as the 2007 Group Volunteer
Service of the Year by America's Second Harvest-The Nation's Food Bank
Network.
"The outstanding volunteer efforts of Kellogg have
brought a significant amount of food to the empty tables of those in
need," Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of America's Second Harvest said
in a news release.
"It is an honor to be recognized," said Celeste
Clark, Kellogg's senior vice president of global nutrition and corporate
affairs. "Helping others in the communities where we live and work is
part of our ongoing commitment to honor Mr. Kellogg's legacy."
In the past five years, 1,279 Kellogg volunteers
have contributed 3,280 hours to the Food Bank during its Days of Caring
campaign. In 2006, volunteers with Kellogg's Fresh Food Initiative
program distributed more than 200,000 pounds of product to 13,263
families.
"We're proud of the partnership with Kellogg,"
said Bob Randels, the Food Bank's executive director. "Thousands of
volunteer hours and hundreds of thousands of pounds of food have been
given towards local hunger-relief efforts in our community."
