Product Recall: On occasion the United
States Department of Agriculture, Food & Drug Administration and
Center for Disease Control will release information on food products
that are being recalled for various reasons. This information,
can be accessed via the websites below. Most often these products
will NOT have been obtained by you via the Food Bank. However,
it is possible through your own food sourcing and food drive
activities, independent of what you have received from the Food
Bank, these items may be on your shelves.
When these recalls involve products in our own
Food Bank inventory, a more rigorous internal protocol is enacted
including an agency-by-agency recall of those who have received the
product from us and various and immediate forms of direct contact
(fax, email, telephone & website alerts), to those agencies.
The United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA) maintains up-to-date product recall information on a variety
of products. You can access this information via their website
here.
Please consult these additional resources for
up-to-the-minute information on product recall:

"Help Us Help You!"
A gentle reminder to our
member agencies -- please do not bring more than 1-2 people with you to
pick up your food orders at the Food Bank. In recent months we have had
member agencies bringing as many as 7 individuals with them. Our warehouse
staff cannot efficiently serve you and ensure that your order is complete
when there is a group of people coming with you. Thanks!!!

Become A Member Agency?
In case you came to this page
wondering, "How can my agency become a member of the Food Bank?" We're glad
you asked! Basically we are a non-profit that is in service to other
non-profits that run feeding programs. Can you answer "yes" to the following
questions:

Hillsdale, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lenawee or St. Joseph County?
2. Do you serve individuals or households in need? At least 50% of the
people you are serving must be low-income.

Do
you have 501(c)(3) IRS status (if you are NOT a church)? For agencies other
than churches, please note, the 501-c-3 determination comes from the IRS,

your agency have adequate space to safely and securely store food?
Bottom shelf must be at least 6 inches off the floor. Non-foods need to be

What is The Purpose of the Food Bank's
Monitoring Visit?
Every member agency of
the Food Bank is monitored. The visit provides an opportunity for the member
agency to give us feedback, regarding the Food Bank's service to a
particular agency, and any information the agency feels would be beneficial.
During the monitoring visit attention is also paid to food safety and safe
storage of food products. The monitoring visit is required by America's
Second Harvest and is also a requirement to be a Food Bank member agency.
