Spartan Stores recently gave the Food Bank of
South Central Michigan $1,500 to help defray the costs of printing a
special collection envelope that was inserted in the Easter Sunday
edition of the Battle Creek Enquirer.
To date over $12,200 has been raised in the Battle
Creek area via this new fundraising vehicle. "We're happy to support a
hunger-relief organization like the Food Bank," said Terry Blanding,
Spartan's Community Relations Specialist.
"Not only has the special envelope insert been
successful, but 70% of the donors are new donors, meaning they had never
given to the Food Bank before," said Dan Salerno, the Food Bank's
Development Director. "It's remarkable to engage so many new supporters
through this partnership with Spartan Stores and the Battle Creek
Enquirer."
Salerno noted that there is still time to send in
contributions to take advantage of the Feinstein Challenge's pledge to
proportionally match all monetary contributions made to Food Banks
during March and April. Any check dated by April 30 will receive that
benefit. Checks can be sent to: Food Bank of South Central Mi, PO Box
408, Battle Creek, MI 49016, or give on-line at:
www.foodbankofscm.org
"The Feinstein Challenge means that there will be
added value to monetary contributions, stretching the value of your
charitable giving," said Salerno.
The Food Bank of South Central Michigan is a
United Way Program Delivery Partner and a member of America's Second
Harvest and the Food Bank Council of Michigan.
