The Food Bank of South Central Michigan

Vision

We believe that no one should go hungry & we are dedicated to
building and sustaining a community that makes grocery
products accessible to all people.

Mission

Feed hungry people by collecting and distributing food and grocery products, advocating for hunger-relief programs and collaborating with others who address basic human needs.

The Food Bank of South Central Michigan is a non-profit, tax-exempt  501(c)(3) organization.

Our distribution center is located in Battle Creek's Fort Custer Industrial Park. The 30,000 square foot facility includes 45,000 cubic feet of cold storage.

The Food Bank of South Central Michigan began in 1983 and since that time has distributed more than 75 million pounds of food.

The Food Bank of South Central Michigan is a member of America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization. We are also a member of the 
Food Bank Council of Michigan.
We are a United Way funded organization.

Who does The Food Bank of South Central 
Michigan help?

Our 275 member, non-profit agency network serves meals or emergency food boxes to over 92,000 individuals each year (Hunger in America, 2006).

These agencies operate emergency shelters, soup kitchens, church run emergency pantries, senior citizen meal programs, youth programs and day care centers.

39% of all household members served by the Food Bank's network are children 17 years of age or younger; 10% of all households served have seniors who are at least 65 years of age or older. The average yearly household income is $10,490. (Hunger in America, 2006).

Food Bank Service Area

We distribute food to our member agency non-profit network in eight counties, including Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Kalamazoo, Jackson, Lenawee and St. Joseph. 

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, American Fact Finder, July, 2005, there are 861,791 people in the Food Bank's service area. 109,545 of the people in the Food Bank's service area are living in poverty.
