Executive Director

The Food Bank of South Central Michigan (“FBSCM”) is located in Battle Creek, Michigan, Fort Custer Industrial Park, and is seeking an ambitious, compassionate, positive, results-driven, qualified individual who is looking for an opportunity as Executive Director.

 

Mission & Vision       

The mission of the Food Bank of South Central Michigan is to feed hungry people by collecting and distributing food and grocery products, advocating for hunger-relief programs and collaborating with others who address basic human needs.  We believe that no one should go hungry and we are dedicated to building and sustaining a community that makes grocery products accessible to all people.  In a typical year, we serve 102,600 individuals through our 285-member agency network, covering eight counties in south central Michigan.  

 

General Description and Position Summary

The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration, management and leadership of the FBSCM, in pursuit of FBSCM’s mission, goals and objectives, as established by the Board of Directors.  This includes fiscal accountability, personnel management, resource development (food and funds), operations management, public relations, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, funding requirements, policies and procedures.  This position reports to the Board of Directors of the FBSCM and serves as a non-voting member.

 

The Executive Director will be committed to the Food Bank and passionate about its mission. Candidates should have proven leadership and management experience. Strong written and verbal communications skills are critical. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who exercises sound judgment, leads with confidence and demonstrates respect, service and stewardship.

 

Qualifications

·        Positive attitude, strong work ethic and compassion for those in need.

·        Master’s degree or equivalent experience in food banking, food industry or non-profit management

·        Organizational financial management experience

·        Excellent writing, communication, management and leadership skills required

·        Successful development/fundraising background

·        Non-profit marketing/PR background a plus

·        Experience/knowledge in supply chain management, warehousing and distribution a plus

·        Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

·        Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard office equipment and occasionally in a warehouse setting with heavy equipment.

·        Will be expected to travel off-site for work-related functions.

Truck Driver

Job Type: Full Time Employment

  • Hours:   40 hours/week.  Hours of operation:  M-F 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, Sat 7:00 am – 12:00 pm

    Job Description:  Responsible for the pick-up of food donations, delivery of agency orders, tailgate orders and food drops.  Assist with loading and unloading of inbound and outbound trucks, and other receiving/shipping tasks.  Assist with maintenance of vehicles and all equipment.  Responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of immediate work areas.

    Job Requirements:         High school diploma

                                                 Commercial Drivers License, Class A or B with air brake

                                                 Minimum (3) years of current commercial driving experience

                                                 Clear driving record

    Warehouse Associate

    Job Type: Full Time Employment

    Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. with the potential for overtime.

    Job Description: Work with the distribution center team to manage the safe handling of incoming donations of food and non-food products and the distribution of food orders to our program delivery partners.
