Our Story

The Food Bank of South Central Michigan has been feeding hungry people since its inception in 1982. The organization has been housed a few different places, but found its home in the Fort Custer Industrial Park in 1989. Since that time, the distribution center, located at 5451 Wayne Road in Battle Creek, MI has grown to meet the needs of the community and continues to branch out into other opportunities to better feed people. The Food Bank’s mailing address is P.O. Box 408, Battle Creek, MI 49016-0408. We partner with organizations in all of our eight counties, state-wide and nationally to be a leader in the fight against hunger.

Where We Are Today

What started out as a small group of people with a singular purpose has grown into an organization that reaches over 189,300 people each year through a hunger-relief network of more than 285 partner agencies operating in eight counties in south central Michigan. Individuals in Barry, Branch, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lenawee and St. Joseph counties receive food, other grocery products, nutrition education, help with other resources and most of all hope.

We are members of Feeding America, a national organization supporting more than 200 food banks across the country, and the largest domestic hunger relief agency in the United States. We are also members of the Food Bank Council of Michigan who partners with farmers, non-profits, foundations, corporations, government and individuals in order to support the work of the seven regional food banks in Michigan and improve access to healthy food for all those in need in all 83 counties in Michigan.
